Liquidating Assets
Selling your possessions is an obvious way to reduce your debt. You should always consider selling unneeded or little-used items. The existence of eBay (the online auction site) has created a worldwide market for almost any good. You should be able to get a decent price for almost any item.
If your debt problem is more severe, you could consider selling more essential items (like your car) if you're explored other means of getting out of debt (like Debt Consolidation) and it's deemed necessary to sell some of your assets.
As mentioned, eBay is an excellent place to sell your items but there are others to consider. Here are a few that we would suggest.
eBay
eBay is the internet's premier auction site. It has millions of users, a valuable user rating system and a secure payment system. You need to post your items on their site (with a nice description) then other users will bid on your item until the auction ends. When the auction closes, you and the highest bidder get in contact to arrange payment then you ship the item to the bidder.
Be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully. When pricing items, remember to list a reserve price (which is the minimum bid value that you will accept) and remember to factor in the cost of shipping the item. Always make sure that you receive payment for your good before shipping.
Garage Sale
The old standby for selling household goods. If you live on a street with a good amount of foot traffic, this can be very effective. You should be able to get slightly better prices than on eBay (since you're the only immediate supplier) but it takes a bit more work. Be ready to negotiate with buyers though.
Consignment
Another interesting option for selling goods are consignment stores. Consignment stores will take your items and display them in the store. If a customer buys your item, the store will split the sale price with you. Take a look in your local yellow pages for these shops and pay one of them a visit to learn more.
